on't Mess With Texas!
The Lone Star Mustangs defeated the H-Town Texas Cyclones 20 - 12 on Saturday May 2, 2009! This is the first official victory of the Lone Star Mustangs. The game was another competitive affair from start to finish where neither team ever led the game by more than a touchdown. Late in the game, an extreme down pour of rain forced both teams into the locker rooms with the score tied at 12 all. After the delay was ended, the Mustangs took control of the game with tough defense and strong running offense. Ebony "Tolula" Jones turned in another outstanding effort from the defensive end position with 7 tackles (5.5 for loss). Alexandra "The Animal" Harvey had another outstanding game from the defensive tackle position with 7 tackles (4.5 for a loss) as well! Cadie "Socks" Larson, Daniela "Jersey" Ottaiano, and Stuff Spencer each had interceptions and returns for over 20 yards each! The defense as a team only allowed one touchdown as the other H-Town touchdown came on a kickoff return. The two fullbacks and the quarterback led the offensive group of the Mustangs in rushing yards. Stephanie "Freight Train" Wakefield had 14 carries for 52 yards and one touchdown. Shug "Boom" Fossis carried the ball 14 times for 37 yards and 2 touchdowns. The quarterback Jennifer Hull carried the ball 11 times for 36 yards and scored the 2 point conversion after the last Mustangs' touchdown. Hull also connected with Brandice Mueller for the longest reception of the day of 47 yards. Altogether, the Mustangs stampeded for 183 yards rushing and 82 yards passing. The primarily rookie offensive line of the Mustangs should be proud of their performance against the defending national champions! The H-Town Cyclones made the Mustangs fight for every yard! The Lone Star Mustangs have been in tough battles for their first two games and look forward to many more. If you have not been out to see the Mustangs play, you are missing some great excitement with people who are truly passionate about playing the game of football. The Lone Star Mustangs are scheduled to meet the Austin Outlaws in Austin, TX this Saturday May 9th. The Austin Outlaws are 2-0 and currently in the lead of the Texas division. The Mustangs played the Outlaws in the first home game and lost by 1 point! Come see what is sure to be a great battle on the grid iron! |
