Dixie Blues Go Pink For Donna

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Jacksonville's other pro football team took the field for its home opener tonight.

The female pro team the Dixie Blues.

" We get a lot of doubters that don't know what we're about, they don't have any idea what we do...but then we get out there and they see a couple shots that are made and they realize it's not a joke at all," says player and coach Chelley Hewitt.

Saturday night was even more special because the Dixie Blues were the Dixie Pink.

All the jerseys were pink, fans wore pink, there were even the pink Blues Brothers.

Six players on the team ran in this years 26.2 With Donna. The rest of the team volunteered at the race and they wanted to give even more.

"We want to be role models for young girls, especially young girls in athletics and we thought we could tie the two together and benefit the Donna Foundation at the same time," says player Betsy Evans. The team gave the Donna Foundation all the money from the night's ticket sales and checks from sponsors. As far as the actual game, the Dixie Blues showed they're not always so sweet, taking care of the also undefeated Memphis Belles. The only problem, it's kind of hard to be very intimidating wearing all pink.

"We were all talking about that we said we're gonna have to hit extra hard tonight because we're wearing all pink," says Evans.
